Abstract

Neighborhood based malls have declined by the progress of the motorization, the hollowing out of city centers and the decreasing birthrate and aging of population. Simultaneously, switch to compact type city structure is expected, and the need of "the citizen-based town planning to be able to live on foot" is advocated. Because it is thought that the neighborhood based malls play an important role in this problem, at first the author investigated the present conditions of the neighborhood based mall in Ichikikushikino-shi, Kagoshima and clarified the situation of the local activity in this report. Then the author utilized the vacant lot that occurred at the mall as "a liveliness open space" of the morning market event and performed a temporary experiment to regain liveliness at the mall. To confirm the usefulness of the temporary settings and how they were used, the author inspected an effect of them.
