Description

An 80-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of lower abdominal pain and bloody stool. Colonoscopy showed a mass lesion, about 2cm in diameter, like an advanced colonic carcinoma (type 2), and showed some scatted ulcers in the sigmoid colon. Histological findings of biopsy specimens showed AL amyloidosis with no malignancy. She was treated with melphalan, prednisone and DMSO without surgery because of preventing the failure of the sutures. AL amyloidosis in the gut rarely shows features of submucosal tumor or the tumor looking like colonic carcinoma. We encountered a patient with AL amyloidosis simulating carcinoma of colon.
