Description

A method for the determination of pentachlorophenol (PCP) in wooden chips was investigated.<br>PCP was distilled with steam and extracted with n-hexane from acidified distillate. PCP in n-hexane was extracted with 0.1M sodium carbonate solution and then acetylated with acetic anhydride. PCP acetate was extracted with n-hexane and purified by silica gel column chromatography. The eluate was analyzed by gas chromatography using an electron capture detector.<br>Acetyl derivative of PCP gave heigher recorder response than free PCP.<br>The recovery of PCP from PCP added wooden chips was 98.4%.
