Abstract
Boron-dope effects on galvanomagnetic properties and diamagnetism have been investigated of the so-called turbostratic carbon prepared froma Texas coke by heat treatment at 2100°C.The Fermi level was determined by confronting the temperature dependence data of diamagnetic susceptibility with the Haering-Wallace formula based on a band model of two-dimensional graphite, its depression due to boronation being 0.065 to 0.40 eV into the valence band. The characteristic negative magnetoresistance has been found not sensitive to the position of the Fermi level determined in this way.A simple calculation based on the uncertainty principle indicates that the application of such a band model is inappropriate to the specimens whose Fermi level depression exceeds 0.1 eV;another approach is desired to be examined, taking into account the amorphous structure.
