Abstract

A survey was conducted through FDRUG of Nifty Serve which is a forum on drug information. Questionnaires were sent as an electronic mail and answers received in turn within 2 weeks were analyzed. The first response peak appeared on the second day. As far as the percent of respondents represented by job group is concerned, hospital pharmacists showed the highest, 36 %, followed by drug store pharmacists. As to the motive of becoming a Nifty member, "from the hobby", and "due to the recognition of usefullness of the system" were the top two. The initial cost needed to set up the PC telecommunication operation was 250, 000 yen on the average. As to the question on "what approach should one take in order to promote further the PC telecommunication operation", "to hold relevant seminars", "to establish relevant education on communication networks" were two most common answers. Respondents pointed out such important roles of PC telecommunication operation as collection of useful pieces of imformation by attending forums, solution of questions, case study and so on. Taking into consideration the result of the survey and the growing importance of PC telecommunication operation, it is proposed that a universal and uniform environment on hard and soft wares which ordinal individuals can have an easy access to and make a ready use of should be established. It is also suggested that the institutional or domestic LAN system, which ought to be established more widely, should be connected for use with the outside network in order to satisfy a multi-purpose operation of the system.
