In this article, we discuss the problems that we faced in converting overseas CD-ROM retrieval software into that applicable to NEC's PC. Overseas software is created for working on IBM's PC, however IBM's PC is not popular in Japan and that kind of software is not working on Japanese PC since Japanese PC is not IBM compatible one. These are very serious obstacle to sale of imported CD-ROM products in Japan. Kinokuniya converted retrieval software of Oxford English Dictionary (OED) CD-ROM edition into applicable to NEC's PC and put on sale in 1989's spring. The reason for necessity to conversion is explained here and an example in case of OED CD-ROM edition is reported. This article is based on our presentation at the 19th Documentation Symposium held by INFOSTA (June 1989, Tokyo).
