Abstract
Over a period of 20 years, in order to achieve binocular vision, we evaluated the effect of training for simultaneous perception (SP) and retinal correspondence in 147 patients with SP disturbance (SP group) and abnormal retinal correspondence (ARC group) using a Major Amblyoscope. Patients attended our hospital 1-2 times per week while maintaining orthophoria with prisms glasses in daily life. These trainings were successfully performed in 92 patients (93%) in the SP group and in 36 patients (75%) in the ARC group. The effect of training showed a tendency to decrease with age, but even before the age of 11 years, the success rate was more than 75%. Useful binocular vision was achieved by 56% of the SP group and 44% of the ARC group, examined by Bagolini striated glasses and the Worth 4 dot test. These results indicate that these trainings are clinically effective in achieving good binocular vision.
