Description
The optics of the AT-45® moves forward by pressure of the vitreous body. Eighteen eyes of 9 patients, hereinafter A group, were used under informed consent and 1 year follow up were made to check the accommodative effect. We aimed to achieve emmetropia in all cases. Same as our report of last year, eighteen eyes of 9 patients of conventional silicone IOL AQ-11ONV® (CANONSTAAR), hereinafter B group, were used as a control group.
Both A and B groups obtained good distance vision. There was no significant difference in distance-corrected near acuity between both groups. The additional power of B group was higher than that of A group, but there was no statistical difference. The near vision of A group tends to become better until 3 months after the surgery, but tends to become worse after that. Considering the aberration is related to the sphere of distinct vision, we measured the corneal (4 and 6mm) and ocular (4mm) higher-order Wavefront aberration using TOPCON KR-9000PW®. There was a difference, but not significant, between both A and B groups, In the same way, the higher-order aberration of both groups were compared between two groups: good vision group with distance-corrected near acuity of 20/40 or better and non-good vision group with distance-corrected near acuity of less than 20/40. There was a small difference, but not significant, between the good and non-good vision groups.
In conclusion, we could not obtain as good near vision and accommodation as it is said to have accommodative effect. Further investigation on the accommodation of long term follow up using objective test is needed.
