Abstract

A 46-year-old female presented only with a mass on the left side of the neck. A walnut-sized was palpable in the lower left lobe of the thyroid gland. Echography showed a cystic pattern, and thyroid gland scintigraphy revealed a cold area at the site.<br>Surgery was performed, and a cystic tumor was removed. The histopathological findings suggested that the cyst originated from the parathyroid gland. A high value of parathyroid hormone was present in the contents of the cyst. The diagnosis was parathyroid cyst.<br>The definition and etiology of parathyroid cyst are discussed.
