Description
In this case of herpes zoster oticus without facial palsy vestibular dysfunction was the main symptom.
A 76-year-old female complained of severe vertigo with the onset of herpes zoster oticus. Spontaneous horizontal and circular nystagmus to the left, sensorineural hearing loss on the right and canal paresis on the right were detected. There were no other neurological symptoms.
These symptoms and findings suggested that this patient had a varicella-zoster virus infection of her outer germinal layer tissue of the skin and sensory epithelium of the inner ear.
