Abstract

We report a case of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma of the left lateral cervix. A 72-year-old woman undergoing surgery for a left neck mass behind the internal jugular vein was found pathologically to have anaplastic carcinoma with partial papillary thyroid carcinoma. Although ultrasonography and computed tomography showed no tumor in the thyroid gland, we conducted total thyroidectomy. No carcinoma was detected pathologically in the specimen and no recurrence was seen two years after treatment. These findings are insufficient, however, to diagnose either occult thyroid carcinoma or ectopic thyroid carcinoma.<br>
