説明

The writer has treated the results of the analysis about the diatom assemblages collected from the surface layers of the bottom sediments at 23 points of the heading area. Especially, he has studied the variation of pH and chlorine content of water in these area to clear the ecological conditions of them. Matsukawa-ura is a lagoon connected with the open sea through the northern narrow mouth of it. It has been divided into four water realms from the values of chlorine content and pH. Namely, near the mouth of the lagoon they indicate 18 Cl g/l and 8.35, respectively. In the central part of it, 14.00 Clg/l and 8.00. Near the mouth of rivers pouring in it, 6.00 Cl g/l and 8.00. And in the lower reaches of these rivers, 2.00 Clg/l and 7.70, He identified 143 species of 43 genera of diatoms. The dominant species of the mouth and the central part of this lagoon is Cocconeis scutellum, benthonic form of marine to brackish water. Near the mouth of rivers, Cocconeis scutellum is accompanied by Melosira sulcata of marine form. In the lower reaches of these rivers, Bacillaria paradoxa, benthonic form of brackish water, is dominant.
