Description
The former views for the geological structure of the Akiyoshi plateau, having been held by Y. OZAWA (1923), T. KOBAYASHI (1941), R. TORIYAMA (1954) and H. YABE (1958), seem to me untrustworthy. They have long held views, that the geological structure of this plateau to be much complicated; especially at Kaerimizu; they were in belief that all the strata are in reverse order. According to them, Neoschawagerina limestone apparently lies under the Parafusulina limestone, which is also situated under the Pseudofusulina or Pseudoschwagerina limestone. So, all these strata may be wholly or at least partly reverse in order which might have been resulted from intense folding and thrusting. Might this view have been held on some premises ? Suppose, all the strata may be nearly horizontal at Kaerimizu, their conclusion would be acceptable to some extent. According to my own investigation at Kaerimizu, however, all the strata, so far as the eastern slope of the Doline is concerned, are surely in normal order, besides they show rather simple, monoclinic structure, as it is clearly shown in the annexed geological map and profile. Yet, the strata are observed to be somewhat steeply inclined than the inclination of the slope of the Doline. If one carelessly tried to get fossils along the eastern slope from the bottom of the Doline upwards, one apt to, I wonder, misunderstand, as if the strata would be in reverse order; because he would get some younger fusulinid remains at the deepest bottom of the Doline, while the older elements of fusulinids at relatively higher places. However, it is quite sure, that neither the geological structure of this plateau is so much complicated at least at the eastern slope of Kaerimizu, nor the sequence of limestones is in reverse order. Further detailed description of the sequence of strata, structure and fossil evidences will be soon published in another periodical.
