Splited pieces of Madake (Phyllostachys bambusoides Sieb. et Zucc.) felled at different season were acetylated and served for feeding tests with Dinoderus minutus Fabricius to investigate their anti-insect effectivenesses. The specimens felled at November, which contained less than 0.3% starch, were hardly attacted by the insects, showing the importance of starch content on the feeding activity of D . minutus. Acetylated specimens with different weight percent gains (WPGs) were produced by vapor or liquid phase acetylation with different reaction times and temperatures. A positive correlation between WPGs and anti-insect effectivenesses was obtained, and 10% or more of WPGs were practically enough to control the attack by D. minutus.
