Description
Seven patients with slow-healing leg ulcers were treated with Isosorbide Dinitrate Tape (Frandol tape, ISDN) with good results. The patients all had certain basic diseases which caused a disturbance in the circulation in their legs. The largest ulcers were hen-egg sized and some patients had multiple ulcers. The ISDN tape, about 1 cm in width, was wrapped around the ulcer and the ulcer healed quickly compared to other previous therapies. The mean number of days taken for epithelization was about 10 days. No systemic side effects were observed. The skin surface temperature was observed by thermography. The temperature of the tape-applied site was higher (1.04∼1.51°C) than that of the normal skin, and when the tape was applied, the temperature of the bottom of the ulcer rose 0.43∼1.14°C. Placebo tape also produced a rise in temperature of the tape-applied site, but the degree was smaller than that of the ISDN tape. From these results, it can be surmised that the effect of the ISDN tape was not due to an ODT effect, but to the vasodilatation of ISDN.
