We investigated the clinical effects of a herbal medicine coix seed extract (Yokuinin) on eleven cases of condyloma acuminatum that were resistant to cryotherapy, electrocoagulation, or the local administration of bleomycin. The patients were treated with coix seed extract at 6.0 g/day p.o. for 12 weeks without receiving any other therapies. The treatment resulted in an effective improvement of the eruptions in eight patients (72.7%), including an excellent effect in three patients (27.3%). No serious side effects were noted. This indicated that coix seed extract therefore appears to be a useful treatment for condyloma acuminatum as well as verruca vulgaris.
