Description

A case of multiple apocrine hidrocystomas is reported. A 63-year-old female had two soft cystic structures on the right upper eyelid and left outer canthus of 3 months’ duration. The tumors were 0.3×0.3 cm and 0.7×0.7 cm, respectively, slightly elevated or dome-shaped, and translucent. Histopathological examinations revealed cystic structures that largely consisted of single or multiple layers of secretory epithelium, showing decapitation secretion. One of them, which occurred on the right upper eyelid, showed a connection with the infundibulum of a hair follicle, and papillary projection of the cystlining into the cavity. PAS-positive, diastase-resistant secretory granules were found in the secretory cells. The other, which occurred on the left outer canthus, consisted of a cystic cavity whose wall was lined by a single layer of epithelial cells, showing no decapitation secretion. A few PAS-positive secretory granules were demonstrated. There were no myoepithelial cells at the periphery of the secretory cells in either case. This is the third case of multiple apocrine hidrocystomas to appear in the Japanese publications.
