Description
A clinical evaluation is presented of 64 psoriatic patients treated with methotrexate, orally in 13 university hospitals of the West Japan. Eighty-six percent of patients (64 patients) had good effects of methotrexate medication. Toxic side effects while taking methorexate were: leucopenia 27%, elevated SGOT levels 19%, elevated SGPT levels 17%, decreased appetite 17%, nausea 16%, fatigue 10%, and mouth ulcers 5%. A new schedule of methotrexate administration by Weinstein et al. is discussed. The toxic side effects were minimal, less than other schedules. In regard of the frequency of incidental consequences of methotrexate medication it is warned of an undiscriminating use of methotrexate.
