Abstract

A 56-year-old woman who had been treated for hyperlipidemia with oral rosuvastatin for about 10 months by a local internist was examined in our department because she had broken out in erythema on her face and limbs several weeks before. During the initial examination her face was flushed, and scattered annular erythematous rashes ranging in color from pale to dark red were observed on her trunk and limbs. In some places they were seen to have fused. Pathohistological examination revealed perivascular infiltration by lymphocytes and eosinophils from the upper to mid-dermis. A drug lymphocyte stimulation test for rosuvastatin was positive. We thought that the lesions were drug rashes, and stopped rosuvastatin therapy and started oral and topical adrenocorticosteroid therapy. A rapid improvement in the skin rashes was observed. No recrudescence of the skin rashes was observed after treatment. Skin rashes due to rosuvastatin were suspected.
