Description
An ultimatum game and a dictator game were administered to 137 participants in order to demonstrate how some people reject unfair and unintentional offers based on the inequity aversion. Participants were asked to make a decision on whether to accept or reject an unfair offer in the ultimatum game, with the allocator making an unfair offer in the "no-intention condition." After the ultimatum game, participants took on the role of the allocator themselves in the dictator game, and they were allowed to decide how much to offer to others. Results indicated a strong effect for the allocator's intention, and even some rejections were observed in the unintentional condition. It was further found that those who rejected an unintentionally unfair offer acted more fairly as an allocator in the dictator game than those who accepted unfair offers. These results suggest that the rejection of an unintentionally unfair offer is clearly based on the preference for equality.<br>
