Description

In this paper, the regional input-output table of Hokkaido industries announced by the Hokkaido bureau of economy, trade and industry, and the overall input-output table announced by the Ministry of economy, trade and industry were integrated together to produce two new and equally-classied input-output tables for the different sectors of industry. Using the inverse matrix obtained from the new tables as well as other documents, the embodied CO2 emission intensity was calculated and the intensity in Hokkaido was compared with the overall intensity in Japan. The results showed that embodied CO2 emission intensity resulting from agricultural practices in Hokkaido exceeds the intensity from the rest of Japan. Besides, the results indicated that structure of crop cultivation in Hokkaido depends a lot on importing elements produced out of the island. This means that increasing the demand of crop cultivation on favor of other industrial sectors in Hokkaido will tend to increase the emission of CO2 in other places in Japan.
