Abstract

We first examined pre-surgery guidance provided for hard-of-hearing clients who are suffering from binaural acoustic neurinoma.
Through a rehabilitation program we specially organized for a client of this type, the following results were obtained: (1) Our client acquired new enquiry strategies as we communicated with her by writing. (2) She began to ask for useful information to help herself to understand her own problems. As we provided the necessary information gathered at her work place and from her directions, she selected the seemingly best solution from these alternatives. (3) Through this process, she began to enjoy the life style of the hard-of-hearing. (4) We discuss the significance of a successful communication approach in the rehabilitation process of our client.
In other words, we conducted a rehabilitation program emphasizing successful communication for a hard-of-hearing client with a total hearing loss in order to solve her communication and vocational problems. She acquired some new enquiry strategies which resulted in more satisfactory solutions.
