Description

A 65-year-old woman recognized a tumor on her scalp before 1999. She visited our hospital on Feb. 10, 2009, complaining about the gradual increase in the size of the tumour. We performed a biopsy and diagnosed her tumor as sebaceous carcinoma. No metastasis was found under CT and Ga-scintigraphy, so we performed a curative operation on her on Mar. 3. Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare epidermal tumor, and it is usually categorized either as eyelid type or non-eyelid type. In Japan, correct clinicopathological data of total sebaceous carcinoma is still unknown. It has been said that the non-eyelid type has a better prognosis than the eyelid type. Whereas according to recent reports, there is no difference in the prognosis of both types. So, further careful observation of her prognosis is necessary.[Skin Cancer (Japan) 2011 ; 26 : 28-30]
