Reconstruction methods for defects in the upper auricular region following tumor excision vary with the size of the helical rim defect. Minor defects confined to the rim can be repaired by postauricular skin flap without auricular cartilage reconstruction. Intermediate defects of the upper third can be repaired with a wedge excision of the auricular cartilage and direct closure. Any remaining skin defect can be repaired by postauricular skin flap. This method is very simple and easy, and a good shape is achieved in the reconstructed ear. However, major defects of the upper third should not be reconstructed by this method.
