Description
We report a case of septic shock due to urinary tract infection successfully treated with polymyxin B hemoperfusion. An 18 year-old man undergoing a living-related renal transplantation 34 months ago, was admitted to our hospital with a diagnosis of urinary tract infection. A few hours later after admission, he developed severe shock with sepsis. Despite administration of heavy volume of fluid for initial resuscitation, he remained anuric with low level of blood pressure. He received polymyxin B hemoperfusion in combination with continuous hemodialysis filtration, and one hour later his blood pressure had significantly increased with an improvement of general condition.<br> We consider polymyxin B hemoperfusion to be an effective alternative therapy for septic shock refractory to fluid resuscitation.
