Abstract

In the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), with the introduction of biological disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug (bDMARD), it became possible to achieve clinical remission. However, in order to give a satisfactory treatment for the patient, the team practice in collaboration with medical staff focusing on the patients is very important. Nurses are “key person in the team practice” because they face wide range of the medical treatment. In our rheumatic center, nurses communicate with other medical staff through “the nursing specialist clinic” and “the foot care unit”. At the nursing specialist clinic, patients can consult with nurses at the counseling room by appointment. As a result, conversation with patients increases and nurses are able to know the patients’ problems very well. Then nurses contact other medical staff more efficiently. At the foot care unit, patients can get a relief of pain by shaving the painful callus or corn at the planter aspect of the foot. Then nurses can refer patients to physical therapists or prosthetists for applying an adequate foot wear.
Here we report our effort to achieve favorable RA treatment through “the nursing specialist clinic” and “the foot care unit”.
