Avulsion fractures of the ischial tuberosity are sometimes appeared in athletes in sports such as sprinting, long jumping, or hurdling. We here report a case of avulsion fracture of the right ischial tuberosity.<br> A 13-year-old boy presented with right buttock pain and gait disturbance, which had occurred suddenly during a 100 m sprint race. At the first examination, he held his right knee in the flexion position and complained of tenderness at the right ischial area. Plain radiographs showed an avulsion fragment of the right ischial tuberosity separated from the pelvis by 3 cm.We performed an operation in which the fractured fragment was fixed using three cancellous screws. He could start walking under partial weight bearing at 3 weeks, and then jogging at 3 months after the operation.<br> There have been diverse opinions on the treatment of this type of fracture. As conservative treatment sometimes might delay the return to sports due to residual pain at the fracture site,we selected surgical intervention in this case because the fragment was separated by more than 2 cm.
