Description
The karyotypes in five species of the Pteriidae have been studied. In the genus Pinctada, P. maculata, P. albina, P. maxima and P. margaritifera had the same chromosome number 2n=28, and from ten to fourteen pairs of chromosomes were meta- or submetacentrics while others were subtelo- or telocentrics in all species. Pteria penguin had also 28 chromosome while the karyotype consisted of twelve pairs of subtelo- or telocentrics and two pairs of meta- or submetacentrics.
