Abstract

Tubular structures are one of the fundamental characters in the Arcoid shell, and are formed by the epithelial protuberances of the mantle. These tubules are present in all Arcoida except for Cyrtodontidae and Manzanellidae. The oldest known species having tubules comes from the early Cretaceous. There are three kinds of tubule formation in Arcoida.
