Abstract

For establishment of low cost micropropagation system of Paulownia, step-down subject of shoot propagation and a direct rooting were studied. It takes total of 140 days to produce 15 cm heigh Paulownia plantlets with orthodox procedure. However, using a combination of axillary bud elongation from subculture and direct rooting with Jiffy 9 and successive acclimatization in a styrene foam case reduces this to a total of 100 days. Moreover, this system reduced the labor and expendable cost of micropropagules about half compared to orthodox procedure.
