Description
The objective of this research is to develop a practical index for plant production control in an actual plant factory which produces lettuce (Lactuca sativa L., cv. Telme lettuce).<BR>By using measured data in relation to environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, radiant flux density and carbon dioxide concentration in the plant factory, a time course of lettuce fresh weight was estimated by multiple regression analysis. A 95% prediction interval of the time course of fresh weight was determined. This interval indicates an effective range in which the fresh weight could be estimated when future observations of the environmental factors, which are similar to the above measured data, are substituted into the multiple regression equation.<BR>The effective environmental factors for estimate of lettuce growth were extracted by principle component analysis. Temperatures in day and night periods, carbon dioxide concentration and days after transplanting were found to be important for estimate of lettuce growth.<BR>A principle component analysis determined which environmental factor should be carefully more controlled. These multivariate analysis will provide a practical index for plant production control at the actual plant factory.
