Abstract

We investigated the effects of the changes to growing conditions on the growth and quality of lettuce in hydroponic cultures.
A reduction in the normal nutrient concentrations from 0.5 units 0.3 units decreased both the level of nutrient uptake and plant growth and the addition of coral sand to the nutrient solution decreased the yield and increased the glutamic acid content.
Irradiation of the crop using UV lighting increased the ascorbic acid content despite a slight decrease in yield and irradiation using 20 Hz stroboscopic lighting increased both the crop yield and glutamic acid content.
