Description

Tidal breathing patterns (TBP) has been used for evaluating the respiratory function in children. We examined whether the analyzing of TBP which is measured by respiratory inductance pletysmography (RIP) can be used to the indicator of bronchial obstruction by methacoline inhalation test using Astograph. In 8 asthmatic children (mean age 12.4 year, male), the thoracoabdominal movement using RIP were measured on the following 3 points; 1) after inhalation of saline (base line), 2) after two times increase of airway resistance from baseline (post challenge), 3) after inhalation of bronchodilator (BD inhalation). The ratio of time to tidal peak expiratory flow to total tidal expiratory time (Time/Te) and the ratio of inspiratory time to total cycle of duration (Ti/Ttot) were used for evaluating the TBP. Ti/Ttot was unchanged on the 3 points. Tme/Te was signincantly increased from 42.9±6.7% on base line to 33.8±9.6% on post challenge and again increased to 41.1±12.9% on BD inhalation. We concluded that Tme/Te can be used to evaluate the bronchial obstruction by methacolin inhalation test using Astograph.
