Description
We estimated atmospheric antimony concentration and conducted the human exposure assessment to quantify the level of human health risk stemming from antimony. The atmospheric antimony concentration at spatial resolutions of 5×5 km was estimated by an atmospheric dispersion model AIST-ADMER. The emission contribution of industrial factories, thermal power plants, waste processing plants, and vehicles were considered as emission sources of antimony. The amount of each emission was allocated to regional emission grid data based on various statistical data. Firstly the validity of model estimation, except for a roadside site, was confirmed by comparing estimated and measured atmospheric antimony concentrations. The concentration of atmospheric antimony at the roadside site was locally high due to emissions from motor vehicles, and we found that the model at spatial resolutions of 5 km underestimated the concentration. Subsequently, roadside antimony concentration was estimated by introducing an ADMER sub-grid module at resolutions of 100 m. The agreement between measured and estimated values was almost within the range of factor 2. These estimated exposure data are expected to be utilized for antimony risk assessment.
