The effect of jasmonic acid (JA) on the resistance in the cotyledon of sweet pepper seedling against leafminer (Liriomyza trifolii) was investigated. After the cotyledons were floated in the JA aqueous solution for 48 hours, they were exposed to the oviposition of leafminer. The cotyledons treated with JA at the concentration over 50 μM showed resistance against leafminer. Comparing the secondary metabolites in the treated cotyledon with that in the untreated cotyledon by HPLC, an enhanced peak was observed. This peak was isolated with octadesyl silica gel column and reversed phase HPLC, and identified as caffeoylputrescine by measuring LC-MS and NMR. Caffeoylputrescine inhibited the oviposition behaviour of the leafminer, when 500 ppm its aqueous solution was applied to the kidney bean leaf.
