Abstract

The effects of Trichoderma spp. on wood degradation by Fomitopsis palustris and Trametes versicolor were examined. Japanese white birch (Betula platyphylla var. japonica) blocks were covered with four Trichoderma spp. immobilized on charcoal particles (pH 8) and exposed to the two basidiomycetes at 25℃ for 12 weeks to measure block mass loss. Trichoderma sp. ANCT-05013 exerted the strongest inhibitory effect on wood degradation. The mass loss in the absence of Trichoderma spp. was 51-80%, compared with 3-6% in the presence of Trichoderma spp.
