Column-mode removal of Pb (II) in the presence of Ba (II), Ca (II), Mg (II), Na (I), and K (I) by macroreticular glycidyl methacrylate-divinylbenzene copolymer-based phosphoric acid resin (RGP) was studied in comparison with a commercially available sulfonic acid resin (Diaion PK216) in flow rate ranges of 10-40 h-1 in space velocity. The resin RGP exhibited the excellent selectivity to Pb (II) over the tested foreign metal ions than did the sulfonic acid one; these foreign metal ions had little effect on the removal of Pb (II) by RGP, while the uptake of Pb (II) with the sulfonic acid resin was greatly reduced by Ba (II) and Ca (II) . Furthermore, RGP efficiently took up Pb (II) at 10-4 M levels even from seawater but not the sulfonic acid resin. The adsorbed Pb (II) on RGP was able to be rapidly and quantitatively eluted with 1.0 M nitric acid solution. No deterioration of RGP was observed, even though the RGP column was used without renewing RGP in repeated adsorption and elution cycles.
