The reliable stratigraphic range of the extinct gigantic shark Carcharocles megalodon (Agassiz) from the Japanese Islands as well as other regions were reviewed. In the Japanese Islands, the fossils were known from the latest Early Miocene to the latest Pliocene formations. Furthermore, the fossil records from NW Europe, Belgium, East Coast of U.S.A. and New Zealand were also reviewed, and it was concluded that the species was ranging from the Late Oligocene to the latest Pliocene in these regions.
