- Influence of Feces from Different Livestock on the Fermentation, Odor, and Ingredients of the Composts
説明
In order to investigate the influence of feces from different livestock on the fermentation, odor, and ingredients of the composts, the feces of dairy cows and layers were composted by maintaining the same conditions with regard to the proportion of feces, ventilation, and bulk agent. By fresh weight, 3.2 kg of feces from dairy cows or layers were each mixed with 0.8 kg sawdust. This mixture was composted for 28 days using an experimental composting apparatus. The lower content moisture and easy degrading organic matter in the feces of layer were considered to cause the higher temperature of the layer compost than that of the dairy cow compost during the fermentation. The emission patterns of sulfur compounds for respective composts were similar, although sulfur compounds emission from layer compost was higher throughout the composting period. In the latter period of composting, ammonia emission from the dairy cow compost was almost undetectable, although it was higher in the layer compost. The total ammonia emission from the layer compost was also higher than that from the dairy cow compost. The contents of inorganic matter, P2O5, K2O, Na2O, and CaO with layer feces and also in its compost were higher than daily cow feces and its compost.
