Abstract

By an analytical study of the diatom-community on the brushy hair-tuft of chelipeds of Eriocheir japonicus (crab), captured from the coast of the Island of Ishigaki (Ryukyu), we intended to know the character of the diatom-flora of the island. The community is composed of 69 forms, 22 forms of which are the elements of the tropical or subtropical region, 6 forms are the elements of the warm region, 1 form is the element of the cold region, and about 40 forms are the cosmopolites. Thus it has become evident that the diatom-flora of the Island of Ishigaki has the tropical or subtropical character. The greater part of the diatom-community is occupied by the marine species. But there are some brackish or fresh water species.
