Abstract
The investigation by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis about the difference in six isozyme phenotypes in camibium among 32 cultivars of Diospyros kaki L. and the 3 other Diospyros species was done. Each isozyme of glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), phosphogluco-mutase (PGM) and glucose-phosphate isomerase (GPI) exhibited respective stable and specific banding patterns during April to October. No intra-cultivar variation was observed in these isozymes. GDH having 21 banding patterns was the most effective isozyme for cultivar identification, followed by PGM and GPI having 13 and 14 banding patterns respectively in 35 cultivars. The isozyme GDH uniquely identified 15 among 35 cultivars. The species D. lotus L., D. virginiana L. and D. rhombifolia had unique banding patterns not observed in D. kaki L.
