Abstract
Information handled in biology and agriculture is very complex and various. In the field of application, more diverse information is temporarily and informally generated. Then different kind of information is handled in different database for different purpose so far. On the other hand, we are facing global problems, such as those of food supply, those of environment, etc, which require interdisciplinary research to resolve. Thus it is useful to build a general database which can handle any kind of biological data and its relatives. Therefore we have developed a free format database where we can define each format for each record. The system has been faster than several XML databases tested and we can control access limitation to any values of any attributes on any records. Then we designed a Web-interface to the system and it has actually worked well with biological resource information in our laboratory.
