Abstract

Detection of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for eating quality was performed using doubled haploid lines derived from crosses between two japonica rice cultivars, ‘Koshihikari’ and ‘Akihikari’. Eating quality was estimated based on the value obtained in the eating quality test, as well as on the amylose content of milled rice and glossiness of cooked rice in a beaker. Putative QTLs for stickiness based on the eating quality test were detected on chromosome 2 (near the DNA markers C370 and OPAJ13) and on chromosome 6 (R2171). ‘Koshihikari’ alleles increased the value of stickiness at these QTLs. Putative QTL for amylose content was detected on chromosome 2 (OPAJ13). ‘Koshihikari’ allele decreased the amylose content at this QTL. Putative QTL for glossiness of cooked rice was detected on chromosome 2 (C1137). ‘Koshihikari’ alleles increased the glossiness at these QTLs. As a result, it was suggested that the QTLs detected on chromosome 2 exert a significant influence on the eating quality of ‘Koshihikari’.<br>
