- Consideration Using the Kyoto Scale of Psychological Development 2001
Description
This research considered the effect of play therapy on 9 children who had been diagnosed as having developmental disorder, from the empirical perspective. In comparing the results of the Kyoto Scale of Psychological Development 2001, before and after six-month therapy sessions, 4 cases exhibited +1SD increase in developmental index, out of 6 cases that could also be assessed for developmental disorder by our team. We examined the correlation between the process of play therapy and developmental index in 3 individual cases, selected from the “change group” and the “no change group.” Consequently, the following findings were suggested. In cases in the “change group”, the clients’ repetitive experiences of concrete fixed points within the process of therapy led to their comprehension of abstract concepts. On the other hand, the problem of mother-infant separation was crucially important in the cases in the “no change group”, which was not connected directly with an increase of the developmental index.
