Abstract
The present study aimed to describe the features of the images produced by people with pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). After the preliminary analysis, “uncertain response” was defined when there was no clear central concept in grasping the feature of their image. In order to examine if “uncertain response” is a special feature of PDD patients, three groups were tested using the Rorschach test. The mean ratings were compared between the PDD group (n=147), a neurosis group (n=49) and a student group (n=47). The PDD group gave the “uncertain response” significantly more often than the other 2 control groups. “Uncertain response” indicates a wide range of ambiguity, and such uncertainty is also observed in their dreams and stories. Such responses reflect the ambiguity of their ability to clearly focus on the object.
