We have been studying the appropriate application of lasers for endodontic treatment. However, hemosiderin deposits were found within macrophages in the clump of fistula between the maxillary second premolar and first molar during root canal treatment for the maxillary first molar. The hemosiderin deposits within macrophages were caused by inappropriate application of a neodymium: yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser. A general dental practician had used an Nd:YAG laser to treat chronic periapical periodontis. He had inserted the laser guiding quartz fiber of the Nd:YAG laser into the fistula, and irradiated the apical tissue under the no-target condition once a week for half a year. I had performed appropriate root canal treatment to the first molar for two months. The hemosiderin deposits within macrophages were foreign substances, and were excreted from the body.<br>It is important to apply lasers properly for dental treatment.
