Description
This study investigated the effects of mirroring, which is one of the non-verbal skills of counselor in the situation of clinical psychology. Sixteen subjects participated in the simulated counseling to discuss career plans. The relationship between counselor mirroring and clients' experience and evaluation about empathy were analyzed. It was indicated that the clients were more likely to perceive the counselor as having a significantly greater level of empathy in the mirroring condition than in a non-mirroring condition. It was also found that the mirroring can bring a positive impression and experience leading to building of rapport significantly. From these findings, the relationship between process of the empathy and the mirroring was demonstrated.
