本論文の目的は，日本・EU間の自由貿易協定（FTA）締結が農業由来の環境負荷に及ぼす潜在的影響を明らかにすることである．環境負荷の分析指標として，農地における窒素投入量と窒素産出量の差から求められる余剰窒素量を採用した．余剰窒素量の推計には，GTAPモデルによる全部門関税撤廃時における経済的影響の予測結果とOECD窒素バランスデータベースを用いた．分析の結果，仮に日本・EU間でFTAが締結された場合，日本とEUの合計でみた農業由来の余剰窒素量は増加する点が示唆された．
