Abstract

The electric power consumption in a cargo ship with 5,600 SHP turbine was measured in, her one round trip including the departure, voyage, entry, unloading, and anchorage. From the results of the measurement the variation of the total electric power consumption due to the change of ship condition, the apparent load factor for the individual auxiliary machine, and the overall load factor for the total of the intermittently used auxiliary machines are discussd in this paper. The principal terms of the cargo ship are tabulated in Table 1. In ship design, the necessary capacity of generators is selected by making use of either the apparent load factor for the individual auxiliary machines or the overall load factor for total auxiliary machines in intermittent service. These load factors can in turn be measured by the performance of the ship thus designed. In Table 5 the measured load factors are compared with the load factors as given by the standard published by the Kansai Society of Naval Architects. It can be concluded that the standard load factors are generally in good agreement with the measured values.
