In the past, large concrete offshore structures were all constructed in one united body in a large graving dock. However, this method takes long time and costs much is building the dock itself. By contrast, use of an existing shipbuilding dock, which is fully equipped, makes the production of concrete offshore structure easy in time and cost. But, because of the narrow breadth, such a shipbuilding dock cannot allow a large concrete offshore structure to be constructed in one united body. To overcome this demerit, we have developed a jointing method of concrete offshore structures afloat which have been built in two or more sections in an existing shipbuilding dock. This method is such that floating concrete structures are pulled and joined and the joint part is filled with concrete. We have studied a procedure to ensure a safe and accurate joint, developed/designed jointing fittings and a watertight rubber, and designed a joint part with sufficient strength providing good watertightness. In deciding such a joint part, we have carried out experiments of curing concrete under cyclic load, which simulates wave-induced load, and also calculations by FEM analysis to confirm good watertightness of the concrete.
